SHEENA CHER

Born in  Malaysia, Sheena moved to Perth in 1999 and completed her high school education at the Presbyterian Ladies College in Perth. She later graduated from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication - Journalism & Marketing).

Whilst studying at university, Sheena decided that her real passion was in cooking and decided to embark on a "road less travelled" by pursuing a career in a field entirely different to the one university prepared her for.

In 2010, Sheena launched La Mint Events & Catering and the business grew just by word of mouth. As a first time entrant, her business won "Best Small Caterer of the Year" in 2016 and was also placed second nationally in the same year. It continues to place within the top 3 in WA in the small business category (Small Caterer/ Venue Caterer).

Sheena has been actively involved with the homeless sector in Perth over the last 3 years. Having started out as a volunteer with Uniting Care West's Family Foundation Centre in East Perth, she now continues to donate a full dinner meal to the centre every Monday night through La Mint, and also initiated a lunch bag "make your own" lunch bag service for the families.

In 2016, Sheena connected with Manna and has since devoted her time in sponsorship activities and developing operational frameworks for the organisation. She also represents Manna, as the voice for small stakeholders of food relief providers in WA, at the WACOSS (WA COUNCIL OF SOCIAL SERVICE) Framework Group Meeting Project developed to map out how food relief recipients and stakeholders can work together more effectively.

The project is expected to be completed by January 2019.

Sheena joined the Board in early 2018, and will also pilot the Manna Kids Enrichment Program that will see Manna facilitate and deliver a wider range of services to its school network and communities.
